Happy Hippo Family – Monacoville (Review)

It’s been a while since I got a copy of the new Happy Hippo Family album. Monacoville is the 11-track debut of the Swedish rockers with the catchy summer songs. One of my favourite songs is Monaco, McGordon & Me. It starts really 80s and gets more and more awesome. I love love the refrain! Anthem Of The Universe sounds like a really big party with confetti and balloons. You have to shake ya leg. Strange Town and Undressed Melody are another amazing anthems. The guys really know how to make wicked refrains. Undressed Melody must sound terrific live. Blissful Life sounds a little bit like Two Door Cinema Club. And we all know I love the guys, so it’s perfect. Story about John is my second gem on this album. Nice structure, the often you hear, the better it gets. I like You’ll Make Me Rich (And You’ll Be Famous) but I would love it, when the last part where longer. The first part is good but the velocity on the end strengthens the song immense. Late Night Confession, the last song on this album is different than the other songs. It’s rough and reduced to the voices and guitars. Real talents!

So my conclusion is, that It’s a pretty awesome album, with catchy songs, different styles, nice lyrics and the perfect companion for the coming summer. Anddd that I’m using the word awesome too often (I need a new word lol). Can’t wait to see them live someday.
